homeschooling and full-time work is challenging enough\u2014but add managing an autoimmune disease like Graves\u2019 disease, and life becomes even more complex. As a parent who works from home and homeschools, I\u2019ve learned firsthand how important it is to prioritize health while juggling multiple responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>My journey with Graves\u2019 disease began after my first child was born, and it has shaped the way I approach homeschooling, family life, and self-care. But when the shedding became extreme and lasted far longer than expected, I knew something was off. I scheduled a dermatology appointment, but tests came back normal\u2014the hair loss was \u201clikely hereditary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That didn\u2019t feel right. I wasn\u2019t even 30 yet. It wasn\u2019t until I stumbled across someone mentioning Graves\u2019 disease on social media that I learned about the Thyroid and it was then that I strongly considered thyroid testing. A visit with an endocrinologist confirmed I had hyperthyroidism and Graves\u2019 disease.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back now, I still feel a twinge of frustration that no one thought to recommend thyroid testing. It also made me wonder: why had thyroid checks never been a routine part of my annual physicals? Because of this, I lean towards sharing my diagnosis story to help spread awareness.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, I\u2019ve stuck closely to my care plan, attending all my routine check-ups, with even more frequent visits during each of my three pregnancies. Prioritize Your Health<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stay on top of check-ups, lab work, and symptoms. You know your body best, and advocating for yourself is <em>essential<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Find the Right Doctor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take your time finding a provider who listens to you, respects your concerns, and helps you feel seen. The right doctor can make a world of difference in how you understand and manage your condition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Be Honest with Loved Ones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This one is hard\u2014I still struggle with it. I don\u2019t want to seem like I\u2019m exaggerating or making excuses.<\/p>\n<p>But the truth is, my condition <em>does<\/em> in fact affect my patience, mood, and ability to rest.
